Project with Michel Roth | Ramanujan Fever Dream Premiere: November 23 | Basel Metallbau
Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) was an Indian mathematician who, as an autodidact, made extraordinary discoveries largely intuitively. He was a specialist in infinite fractions and approximate equations, whose building blocks sometimes seem mysteriously thrown together but are still used today. My piece Ramanujan Fever Dream is about an approach to the infinite or vice versa: about infinity as a paradoxical possibility to get as close as possible to an intangible thing. On all levels, the ensemble, the electronics and also the sound movement in the space get caught up in feedback loops; even the audience can approach the action to such an extent that they intuitively influence what is happening. Like in a fever dream, surprising new worlds and relationships emerge from circling and pulsating thoughts. Michel Roth
