Bertrand Gourdy, Percussion
Bertrand studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and then at the Musik-Akademie of Basel, in the class of Christian Dierstein. He is currently working on his doctorate at the University of Basel, which focuses on the analysis of learning processes in percussion, while continuing his composition studies with Martin Moulin in France. In the years prior to his musical studies, he first studied literature, then completed a degree in History at the University of Rennes, before spending a year studying international relations and political history in Leipzig.
His compositions have been performed in Paris, Berlin, Basel and Darmstadt. Among others, he has been commissioned by the ensemble Offrandes (Le Mans), the Musik-Akademie of Basel and the Hochschule für Musik of Freiburg. Along with fellow students from Basel, he founded the ensemble Klanglab (CH).
As a performer, he took part in the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2016 and in the Darmstadt Summer School in 2016 and again in 2018. Furthermore, he works regularly with contemporary music ensembles in Switzerland, Germany and France. Finally, he studied jazz vibraphone with Lester Menezes at the Jazz-Campus in Basel, and regularly tours with a Gender Wayang duo, a Balinese music ensemble for shadow theater.
