Étienne Jacobée, born in 1964, lives and works in Chantilly in the Oise department.

He honed his craft through travel, seeking out experiences and techniques that aligned with his sculptural practice—focusing on working with metal and wood, as well as drawing—while also discovering artists and places that would influence him.

Thus, in Italy, at the European Center for the Restoration of Architectural Heritage in Venice, where he studied architecture and art history, and in Africa, in Togo, where he worked with blacksmiths in Sokodé. He returned deeply impressed by the earthen architecture of the termite mounds, the red of the laterite, and the lush vegetation.

In 1989, he discovered the sculpture of Dominique Labauvie, represented at the time by the Maeght Gallery, which marked a turning point in his sculptural exploration, and he delved into the works of Anthony Caro, Eduardo Chillida, Alain Kirili, Richard Serra, and Andy Goldsworthy, among others.

He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions as well as completed several public commissions, and has benefited from writings on his work by critics and art historians such as Emmanuel Daydé, Gérard-Georges Lemaire, Christian Noorbergen, and Colin Lemoine. The world of his studio was the subject of a film by Clovis Prévost, former director of the film department at the Maeght Gallery.

Bertrand Gourdy Bertrand studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, then at the Musik-Akademie in Basel, in Christian Dierstein’s class. He is currently working on his doctoral dissertation at the University of Basel, which focuses on the analysis of learning processes in percussion, while continuing his composition studies with Martin Moulin in France.

In the years prior to his musical studies, he first studied literature, then earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Rennes, before spending a year studying international relations and political history in Leipzig.

His compositions have been performed in Paris, Berlin, Geneva, Basel, and Darmstadt. He has received commissions from the Offrandes ensemble (Le Mans), the Musik-Akademie in Basel, and the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg. Together with fellow students from Basel, he founded the Klanglab ensemble (CH). He is also a member of the ensembles Impact (FR) and Rituais (Brittany).

As a performer, he participated in the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2016 and the Darmstadt Summer Course in 2016 and 2018. He also works regularly with contemporary music ensembles in Switzerland, Germany, and France.

Finally, he studied jazz vibraphone with Lester Menezes at the Jazz-Campus in Basel, and performs regularly in a duo called Gender Wayang, a Balinese music ensemble for shadow theater.
