Curator Ugo Pecorario
Ugo Pecoraio is an independent curator and advisor specializing in digital culture, innovative exhibition formats, and cross-disciplinary collaborations. His curatorial practice is situated at the intersection of avant-garde artistic practices, institutional critique, technology, design, activism, and subcultures. He views art institutions not merely as platforms for a singular curatorial voice but as dynamic ecosystems—nodes connecting artists, curators, diverse communities, and the public.
In his projects, Pecoraio actively challenges traditional structures, advocating for exhibition spaces to become inclusive social environments driven by radical hospitality and genuine participation. He co-developed the digital art platform KUNSTSURFER, where he has curated multiple exhibitions, including solo presentations such as "Dreaming Beyond Worlds" with Linus Weber (2024) and "There will be Wastelands, Baby!" with Jennifer Merlyn Scherler (2024). Another example of challenging traditional structures is the co-curated project DAY with artist Tobias Kaspar, for which Pecoraio also co-developed the concept, presented during Art Basel 2024.
Pecoraio frequently lectures and conducts workshops internationally, focusing on experimental digital spaces and exploring the transformative potential of blockchain technology within cultural contexts. He completed his Master's in Curatorial Studies at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2024, with research dedicated to experimental digital exhibition formats and the critical examination of how technology influences contemporary cultural institutions.
Previously, Pecoraio founded the high-end fashion label Collective Swallow after graduating in Fashion Design from HGK FHNW in Basel in 2015. He subsequently held strategic communication roles in Berlin at Reference Studios and later in Zurich at Neutral, Switzerland’s leading art PR agency, and is currently working at HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel as Head of Communication.
Based in Basel, Switzerland, Pecoraio continues to collaborate with diverse institutions and artists, always aiming to foster dialogue, question existing systems, and collectively imagine more open, just, and compassionate futures through contemporary art.
